Terrace Community Mental Health Services provide treatment to adults who have a severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder and to people whose life and basic functioning is seriously affected by acute mental illness such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders or other mental health disorders. 

We provide:

     Clinical assessment and treatment

     Psychiatric consultation

     Support and Education to clients, families, caregivers, health professionals, agencies

     and community services

     Financial assistance with the cost of psychiatric medication

     Elderly services

     Liaison with community services

Rehabilitation Services which promote independence through:

     Community living support services

     Educational/vocational planning

     Clubhouse referrals

     Occupational therapy services

     Residential rehabilitation services

     Recreational therapy services

     Supported housing

We work closely with and refer to agencies which provide services for:

     Relationship/family counseling

     Addictions counseling

     Services to children

     Services to people whose major difficulty is a developmental disability

Terrace has a psychiatric unit and residential programs that offer services for the entire Northwest region

Terrace Mental Health team is multidisciplinary and consists of outreach psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, recreation therapists, an occupational therapist, lifeskills workers, and vocational rehabilitation workers.

What residential facilities are in your community? _Birchwood Place and Seven Sisters.

Mental Health & Addictions residential and supportive recovery services for adults.  Offers a structured environment, staffed 24/7, providing life skills training for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Short stay programming of 6 to 8 weeks requires that the resident have housing to return to upon discharge from the program. 

Birchwood is currently undergoing a redesign process.  Please check with the area manager for information on the redesign.

Birchwood provides a beautiful, peaceful home like setting.  We have a caring and dedicated staff who teach life skills to residents based on psychosocial rehabilitation philosophy and best practices, in order to promote independence of individuals with mental illness

Seven Sisters is a 20 bed residential & recovery facility offering 24 hour supportive care and life skills teaching & education for clients with mental illness and addictions.  Seven Sisters is staffed with Life Skills workers, LPN’s , a part time Psychiatrist, admin assistant and Team Leader.  As well we share Recreation and Vocational staff with TMH, Psych Unit and Birchwood Place.

Seven Sisters has professional staff who are dedicated and truly enjoy making the residence a wonderful and supportive home for clients working on their recovery goals. It is a program where there is ongoing evaluation to find creative ways to strengthen and grow.  It is a program that offers clients the ability to find new opportunities and to make choices based upon their personal beliefs and values.  An ongoing goal is to provide an atmosphere, a home, where clients are able live and feel safe.

The BC Schizophrenia Society partners with the Northern Health Authority to improve the quality of life for family members/caregivers and individuals affected by ANY mental illness and/or addiction  (including schizophrenia, psychosis, bipolar, depression, anxiety, addiction and concurrent disorders) through PEER support, education and advocacy.

Individuals can refer themselves or be referred by others.  Our services are offered free of charge.

We offer:

  • Strengthening Families Together family education program
  • Family Support Groups
  • Family Support On-Line Forums
  • Public Partnership Education Presentations on ANY mental illness and/or addiction topic with consumer, family member and service provider presenters
